What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the main cannabinoids (compound) found in the cannabis sativa plant. Compared to THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, which is a more famously known cannabinoid, CBD is not psycho-active nor addictive. It has become the focus of interest of much medical research in the last decades.
What is THC?
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is a psychoactive substance found in cannabis and can lead to addiction, hence why it is predominantly illegal across the world. CBD, in contrast, is being studied to help those in need across the globe; from addiction recovery, to medical treatments, to chronic pain management.
CBD and THC: What's the difference?
CBD and THC are two of the cannabis plant’s most prominent cannabinoids (and there are hundreds). While THC is psychotropic, CBD is not, hence why THC is considered a drug but CBD is legal in most countries. THC is known to increase anxiety whereas CBD has shown to be able to reduce it.
CBD can be taken for chronic pain, insomnia, and depression.
More than 60% of CBD users take it to help manage anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, and depression, according to a survey of 5,000 participants conducted by cannabis market research firm Brightfield Group.
Medical research has shown CBD to help manage epilepsy.
CBD has shown to successfully reduce seizures in children and teenagers suffering from drug-resistant epilepsy. Research has also found that CBD can act faster than conventional antidepressants and with less side effects.
Users claim to prefer CBD as a 100% natural alternative to countless pharmaceutical drugs.
When properly cultivated and administered, CBD can be considered a natural alternative to many high-grade pharmaceutical drugs. Additionally, CBD has fewer (if any) short and long-term side effects, if non-addictive and can be more effective.
